Atomic Spectra When gaseous hydrogen in a glass tube is excited by a 5000-volt electrical discharge, four lines are observed in the visible part of the emission spectrum: red at 656.3 nm, blue-green at 486.1 nm, blue violet at 434.1 nm and violet at 410.2 nm:
